St. Matthew School is a small, inner city, Catholic, K-8 elementary school that serves the children of the Phoenix downtown area and to the western edges of Phoenix.

St. Matthew Catholic School is a partnership with parents, faculty, students and our neighborhood community committed to developing the whole child with the integration of academic excellence and Catholic values within a safe and nurturing environment.

With the troubled economic times many of our parents have lost their homes and jobs. They are struggling to make tuition payments even though they are partially subsidized by Diocesan funding. These children are poor and some are homeless.

As compared to the rest of the State of Arizona, here's the makeup of our area and families.
Population: 56,034 (85009) vs. 5,130,874 (Arizona)
% w/college degree: 7% vs. 25% (statewide average)
Median Household Income: $25,562 vs. $42,682 (statewide average)

Our typical funding sources have decreased for this school year due to the economy and other cutbacks. The school year will definitely be challenging! That is why we need to reach out to others to help to continue to provide the best Catholic education and Catholic values to these children.
