The First Tee of Northern Nevada is a nonprofit youth development organization that teaches young people important life skills through the game of golf at golf courses and at more than 25 local schools.
The First Tee help young people face challenges at home, school and play in a constructive manner. The skills they learn include problem solving, goal setting, time management, controlling one’s emotions, working well with others and improving relationships with family and community.
Annually, we serve more than 6,200 youth in Washoe, Carson, Lyon, and Douglas counties. Forty percent of participants are non-Caucasian; 49 percent are female; and 46 percent are teens.
Of the youth who participated in The First Tee Golf & Life Skills programs at golf courses, 40 percent pay no fees due to financial need.
